Here we have complete order on the left, morphing into chaos on the right. In fact there are five forms of disorder which increase toward the right. It is interesting to follow the black and white diagonals as they move to the right and see how their distinctive color difference gradually blurs and disappears.

People viewing the image have come up with a number of metaphors for what the image means. The idea of order into chaos occurs to many. Some think of it as conservative versus liberal, others as Democrat versus Republican, or pessimist versus optimist, or in 50s lingo "square" versus "hip". Others may think of it as an earthquake or other natural cataclysm. Another view is that it represents the turbulence of youth versus the wisdom of age.
