We are in the deep shade of an old-growth forest. They could be California redwoods or Douglas firs in Mt. Rainier National Park. Little grows in this deep shade except for "wood sorrel" or "oxalis" -- a spring-blooming plant that is able to tolerate the shade. There are patches of gray lichen on the trunks. The only image (thus far) in which the sky is virtually absent.

Photography of such a scene would be very difficult due to the low light levels and sharp light-dark contrasts.
